Caribbean Nationals in Broward County gears up to celebrate the annual Unifest 2015 – which promises to be a spectacular display of the Caribbean’s, culture, music, food and way of life. To coincide with the 21st annual Unifest and National Caribbean Heritage month celebration the event organizers kicks-off a series of Caribbean Cultural exhibition at the African American Research Library in Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale Lakes Library & Lauderhill Library on Oakland Park Boulevard.
“This is a very fitting way to share our culture and our history and to celebrate the upcoming Caribbean Heritage month,” says founding member and former Lauderdale Lakes Commissioner, Representative Hazelle Rogers.
Celebrating 21 years of bridging cultures…this year’s Unifest will be held on Sunday May 17th from 11am – 11pm at the Vincent Torres Park in Lauderdale Lakes. Unifest Chairman Mario Zamora “this event continues to unite us as One Caribbeanand is sure to provide something for everyone.” Theevent includes the annual health and business expo, cultural exposition with a carnival flare,battle of the marching bands featuring the visiting Portmore Band from Jamaica, the annual Caribbean Heritage month scholarship essay competition presentation, kid’scorner featuring story telling and spoken words,cultural display of artifacts and paintings, dominoes and netball.You will be able to taste the many flavors of the Caribbean at Unifest.
Vincent Torres Park will come alive with local and international artists. Unifest concert will kick-off with the popular Teen Sensation Competition for teens ages 14 thru 18 years…vying for the 2015 Unifest Teen Sensation title! Main stage performance by Brigadier Jerry, Frankie Paul, Chucky Gordon, Nadine Sutherland, Professor Nut, Skinny Fabulous, Joanna Marie, Teen Sensation 2014 winner, Shalyah Fearing, Code Red Band & more!
Unifest 2015 is presented by the Greater Caribbean American Cultural Coalition, partners includes: the city of Lauderdale Lakes, Greater Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Broward Community and Family Health Centers. Unifest 2015 is sponsored in part by MoneyGram, FPL, Broward Cultural Division, Comcast, Greater Fort Lauderdale, Bank of America, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, WAVS Radio, Douglas Management and Broward Meat & Fish.
